In the anime series "Hyouka", the character of Houtarou Oreki undergoes a significant transformation after he meets the energetic and curious Eru Chitanda. At the beginning of the series, Houtarou is presented as a lethargic and apathetic character who is content to live a life of minimal effort and engagement with the world around him. However, as he becomes more involved with Chitanda and her various investigations, he begins to develop in several key ways.

Firstly, Houtarou becomes more curious and engaged with the world around him. Chitanda's relentless pursuit of knowledge and understanding inspires Houtarou to take a more active role in investigating the mysteries that surround him. He begins to ask more questions, to seek out information more actively, and to put more effort into solving the puzzles that he encounters. This newfound curiosity gives Houtarou a sense of purpose and direction that he had been lacking before.

Secondly, Houtarou becomes more empathetic and emotionally attuned to the people around him. As he spends more time with Chitanda and their fellow members of the Classic Literature Club, he begins to understand and appreciate the nuances of human interaction. He becomes more sensitive to the feelings of others and more willing to put himself in their shoes. This increased empathy helps Houtarou to build stronger relationships with those around him, and to see the world from a more nuanced and complex perspective.

Finally, Houtarou becomes more confident and assertive. As he gains more experience investigating mysteries and interacting with others, he begins to trust his own instincts and judgment more fully. He becomes more willing to take risks and make bold decisions, even if they go against the expectations of those around him. This newfound confidence allows Houtarou to become a more effective problem-solver and leader, and it helps him to achieve his goals more effectively.

Overall, the character of Houtarou undergoes a significant transformation over the course of "Hyouka", and much of this change can be attributed to his interactions with Chitanda. Her energy, curiosity, and compassion help Houtarou to see the world in a new light, and to develop new skills and perspectives that will serve him well in the future. By the end of the series, Houtarou is a much more engaged, empathetic, and confident person, and his journey of self-discovery is one of the key themes of the show.
